Ohio Sea Grant Communications

The overall goal of the Ohio Sea Grant Communications Program is to provide current, accurate, research-based information to Ohio's citizens and others interested in Lake Erie and Great Lakes issues. The Communication team includes Jill Jentes, Communications Manager, Writer; Nancy Cruickshank, Publications Manager and Communications Assistant; Greg Aylsworth, Visual Designer. The Team supports all elements of the Ohio Sea Grant College Program, including Stone Laboratory and the Great Lakes Aquatic Ecosystem Research Consortium. Our efforts include:

Developing, promoting, evaluating, and enhancing the communications efforts of our researchers, educators, and extension specialists through such products as newsletters, fact sheets, displays, conferences, and our web site.

Interacting and collaborating with communications efforts of the National Sea Grant College Program, the regional Sea Grant networks, other networks such as the Great Lakes Information Network, the Great Lakes Communicators Network and various environmental and research areas at The Ohio State University. The educational newsletter of Ohio Sea Grant, covering issues, events, and research related to Lake Erie and the Great Lakes.

Publication List

Besides our program newsletter, the Communications program maintains a publication list. Popular publications (fact sheets, guides, and education materials) and technical materials (journal reprints, technical bulletins and summaries) will be available on-line shortly.

Media Relation

The Communications program receives many requests from the media about various Lake Erie issue. On a frequent basis requests include background information, interviews, and guidance to other information sources.
Articles have appeared in prominent Ohio newspapers such as the Columbus Dispatch, Toledo Blade, The Plain Dealer (Cleveland), and the Akron Beacon Journal. Articles have also appeared in national publications such as the Washington Post, Nature, Chicago Tribune, and the Christian Science Monitor. In addition, Ohio Sea Grant programs and projects have been featured on National Public Radio, Earthwatch Radio and on local television newscasts.
